ERC Portraits

In this section, we present successful researchers, EU officers as well as ERCEA and NCP ERC staff.

The portraits illustrate the wide range of funded projects, institutions and researchers in terms of research area, institution size and professional background. At the same time, the EU officers and the NCP ERC staff provide an insight into their work, in which they support researchers from initial information to project management. Interviews with ERCEA staff will give you an insight into the day-to-day work at the ERC.

Monika Schuler

Monika Schuler arbeitet seit 2007 als Erstanlaufstelle bei der NKS ERC. Sie unterstützt Antragsteller bei Fragen zum Programm, zur Antragstellung und Projektmanagement.

Martin Winger

Martin Winger arbeitet seit 10 Jahren als Berater bei der NKS ERC. Er begleitet Forschende durch die Erstberatung, individuelles Feedback zur Antragstellung und das Training zur Interview-Vorbereitung.

Eleni Zika

Eleni Zika works in the Scientific Mgmt Dept. She leads a new sector focussing on scientific impact & feedback to policy. They want to illustrate the policy relevance of excellence frontier science, and enhance the visibility of ERC-funded research.

Wieland Staessens

Wieland Staessens works as Head of Sector in the Unit Physical Sciences & Engineering in the Scientific Dept. of the ERCEA. He supports top-level researchers to achieve their research goals and dreams by organizing and providing EU research funding.

Dr. Ronny Fischer

Dr. Ronny Fischer ist Forschungsreferent am Research Grants Office der Charité. Er hat mehr als 25 Jahre Erfahrung in der Förderberatung und im Projektmanagement, in den letzten 15 Jahren war er an verschiedenen Universitäten tätig.

Prof. Johann-Mattis List

Prof. Dr. Johann-Mattis List leitet den Lehrstuhl für Multilinguale Computerlinguistik an der Universität Passau. Mit seinem ERC Consolidator Grant „Productive Signs“ wird er erforschen, wie sich Wortfamilien in den Sprachen der Welt verändern.

Dr. Andrea Gottlieb

An der Universität Bremen begleitet Dr. Andrea Gottlieb die Forschenden durch den gesamten Projektzyklus: Antragsprüfung, Budgetplanung, Probevorträge für Interviewkandidaten und projektbegleitende Verwaltungsaufgaben.

Prof. Davide Cantoni

Herr Prof. Davide Cantoni hat erfolgreich mit der LMU einen ERC Consolidator Grant eingeworben und den Service der NKS ERC gut genutzt, indem er das Interviewtraining besucht hat.

Dörte Dannemann

Dörte Dannemann arbeitet bei der TU München als EU-Referentin und bietet Forschenden eine umfangreiche Unterstützung während der ERC-Antragsphase und bei der Vertragsvorbereitung. Sie hat langjährige Erfahrung in der EU-Forschungsförderung.

Dr. Lisanne Sauerwald

Dr. Lisanne Sauerwald arbeitet an der LMU München als Teamleitung Internationale Förderprogramme. Das Team bietet Information, Beratung und Training zum ERC in der Antragsphase. Sie hat bereits langjährige Erfahrung im Bereich Forschungsförderung.

Prof. Christina Felfe

Christina Felfe will in ihrem ERC-Projekt untersuchen, welche Rolle Eltern, Mitschülerinnen und Mitschüler, Lehrkräfte und allgemeine Sozialisationsprozesse beim Entstehen von Gruppenpräferenzen spielen.

Dr. Ulrike Pag

Ulrike Pag ist EU-Forschungsreferentin an der Universität Bonn und berät dort seit vielen Jahren zum ERC. Die ersten Berührungspunkte zu EU geförderten Verbundprojekten sammelte sie als Wissenschaftlerin bereits im 5. Forschungsrahmenprogramm.

Dr. Elke Gehweiler

Frau Dr. Elke Gehweiler arbeitet seit fünf Jahren als EU-Referentin an der TU Berlin. Im Team des EU-Büros berät Sie schwerpunktmäßig zum ERC und bietet den Forschenden der TU Berlin umfangreiche Unterstützung bei der ERC-Antragstellung.

Peter Stolpp

Peter Stolpp arbeitet seit mehr als 13 Jahren als EU-Referent im Referat Forschungsförderung der Universität Siegen. Neben vielen erfolgreichen internationalen und EU-Beratungen ist ein Highlight die eigenständige Einwerbung eines MSC-COFUND-Projekts.

Prof. Ahmad Reza Sadeghi

Ahmad-Reza Sadeghi ist Professor für Informatik an der TU Darmstadt. Seit 2012 hat er eine langfristige Zusammenarbeit mit Intel. Für seine Forschung wurde er mehrfach ausgezeichnet. 2021 hat er erfolgreich einen ERC Advanced Grant eingeworben.

Prof. Dr. Werner E. G. Müller and Dr. Silvia Tschauder

Dr. Werner E.G. Müller developed a novel method based on inorganic biopolymers for the treatment of cartilage damage and osteoarthritis in his third ERC PoC project "ArthroDUR", building on the results of his ERC Advanced Grant.

Prof. Dr. Jonathan Harrington and Dr. Lisanne Sauerwald

Professor Jonathan Harrington conducted research on how language changes over time as part of his first of two ERC Advanced Grants (AdG). This is where his ERC Proof of Concept Grant (PoC) came in.

Dr. Annika Jahnke

Annika Jahnke investigates the chemical activity of mixtures of environmental pollutants using silicone "chemometers" to determine their distribution and possible effects in different components of the environment.

Prof. Dr. Friedrich Frischknecht

The goal of Friedrich Frischknecht's project is to identify protein structures that the unicellular malaria pathogens require for their extremely effective locomotion in their human host and to describe their precise function.

Prof. Dr. Magdalena Nowicka

Magdalena Nowicka received a Starting Grant for her social science project.

Prof. Dr. Jan Peters

The machines of Jan Peters from TU Darmstadt play table tennis and can pour themselves a glass of water. The computer science professor is developing robots that improve themselves through learning. His dream: a personal robot for the home.

Prof. Dierk Schleicher, PhD

Dierk Schleicher brings top mathematicians from around the world to Bremen to work with them and his team to find new answers to centuries-old, unsolved mathematical questions.

Dr. Blazej Grabowski und Dr. Katja Hübel

In his project TIME-BRIDGE Blazej Grabowski will describe the thus far missing time interval between nanoseconds and hours using a novel method of atomistic simulation.

Prof. Dr. Helle Ulrich, Franziska Hornig and Katharina Zeller

With her ERC project, Prof. Helle Ulrich investigates a DNA repair system which contributes to the prevention of cancer and ageing processes. She is supported in project management by the EU liaison officers Katharina Zeller and Franziska Hornig.

Prof. Dr. Verena Lepper and Tania Lipowski

Berlin-based Egyptologist and Orientalist Prof. Dr. Verena Lepper has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant. Her research project locates 4000 years of cultural history through textual sources from the Nile island of Elephantine in Egypt.
