At the “Choose Europe for Science” conference in Sorbonne, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a new ERC funding instrument. The proposed ‘Super Grants’ aim to support particularly ambitious research projects with larger and longer-term grants. The ERC Scientific Council strongly welcomes this initiative and is actively working on its implementation. As with existing ERC schemes, the new grants will be awarded solely on the basis of scientific excellence. They will be open to researchers of any nationality working in or moving to a host institution in an EU Member State or a country associated with Horizon Europe.
