The winners of the Public Engagement with Research Awards were announced on 17 September 2026. Eight researchers received the prize based on their outstanding contribution to public engagement with audiences beyond their academic fields. This year’s winners employed creative methods to cater to the wider public. Their projects included creating a theatre production about artificial intelligence’s role in healthcare, constructing micro-gardens across 23 countries, and distributing personalized microbiome feedback.
The award acknowledges excellence in science communication and aims to encourage further ERC grantees to engage with the public.
