As part of the “Choose Europe” initiative, the funding for this new scheme was announced on 5 May 2025 by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her speech at the Sorbonne. The ERC Plus Grant is directed at outstanding researchers in Europe and across the globe with bold, highly ambitious projects aiming to go beyond the scope of existing ERC programmes
