The annual work programme of the European Research Council (ERC) for 2026 was published on 8 July 2025. The National Contact Point ERC (NCP ERC) offers information and advice on this document and on all individual funding lines.

The programme defines the funding modalities, the budget, the call periods and the rules for eligibility in the coming year. The document was drafted by the ERC and has now been officially adopted by the European Commission.

As announced in advance, applicants are now required to divide their proposals into two parts: a concise five-page Part I, which sets out the scientific idea and objectives, and a more detailed Part II, which focuses on the implementation and methodology. Feasibility is only assessed in step 2 of the evaluation. The increased funding amount for researchers from outside the EU who want to relocate their work to Europe was also already known. Furthermore, changes in the eligibility rules for Starting and Consolidator Grants as well as redefined restrictions on the resubmission of Synergy Grants have been introduced.

Further innovations are expected in the 2027 Work Programme.
