In April 2025, the ERC and the Association of ERC Grantees (AERG) officially launched the new ERC Ambassadors Network. The ambassadors aim to raise the visibility of ERC funding and promote dialogue with policymakers, the media, research institutions, and National Contact Points. The 32 appointed individuals — 17 women and 15 men — come from 21 EU Member States and five associated countries. Their initial term is set for one year, with the possibility of extension up to six years. ERC President Maria Leptin highlighted the potential of a well-connected ambassador network to strengthen frontier research in Europe. The Association of ERC Grantees (AERG), which selected the ambassadors from over 200 applications, also noted strong interest and promising prospects for expanding the initiative.
