395 applications have been submitted under the ERC Synergy Grants 2023 call. The deadline was on 8 November 2022. In total, 1,350 principal investigators with 1,236 host institutions applied. An average proposed project involves three principal investigators and has a budget of about 9.4 million euro.
Most principal investigators come from German (197) and Italian (143) universities and research centres. Women make up 27 per cent of principal investigators in the proposed projects. Furthermore, 65 per cent of proposals include women, a slight increase from previous years.
The ERC Scientific Council has earmarked 300 million euro for an estimated 30 Synergy Grants. The ERC has started the evaluation of the proposals. The projects selected for funding are planned to be announced in the autumn of 2023.
